The “Barbera d’Alba” is produced on the hills of Alba, in the province of Cuneo. Its origins dates back in the past, however the first documents that mention it, are traced back to just a couple of centuries ago. This fine wine has been praised by some well-known poets, such as “Giosuè Carducci” and “Giovanni Pascoli”, though the “Barbera” is still recognised from many experts of our times as “exceptional”.
The “Barbera” is no doubt the wine that, better than any other, represents the “Piedmont” and its people, rough, stubborn, delicate and strong, it is among the most famous and appreciated Italian wines. The main reason of its fame is the generosity and its alcoholic character. It has a bright ruby-red colour, with some deep shades and purple hints; it has an inviting taste, a fruity smell when it is young, more austere when properly mature, with a flavour of prune, blackberry and jam, of a full and pleasing taste.
The “Barbera” can be easily combined with game dishes, braised red meat, mixed grills, rabbit, tasty and spicy cheese.
Colour: ruby-red when it is young, with a tendency to garnet red when it is mature.
